Preventive and Diagnostic Dentistry
At Dentist & Dontist, we know that the key to having a healthy mouth and beautiful smile is maintaining proper oral hygiene. We also know that this can be challenging for some people. That’s why we provide efficient and reliable services to our patients in order to keep up with a good regiment. Preventative and Diagnostic care includes proper analysis and assessment of the mouth. We offer the following Preventative and Diagnostic services:
Hygiene/Continuing Care is a professional dental cleaning, which should be scheduled every 3-6 months. Each appointment generally includes an oral exam performed by one of our experienced dentists. A standard cleaning, polishing and flossing occurs, as well as a periodontal assessment. Depending on your oral health, other cleaning methods and analysis might be done.
Digital X-rays are computer-generated images that we use to see your teeth and surrounding structures. Unlike traditional X-rays, Digital X-rays are quicker, more convenient and emit a lesser percentage of radiation. Digital X-rays use a small electronic sensor to take an image of the desired area, which is then instantly transmitted into the patient’s digital chart. This creates quick and efficient diagnostic practices.
An important feature we look at during Preventative and Diagnostic procedures are the gums. The health of your gums is just as important as the health of your teeth. Periodontal Assessment determines if there is bleeding, inflammation or pocketing of the gums around the teeth, which indicates any presence of Gingivitis or Gum Disease. Further treatment of Gingivitis or Gum Disease includes a non-surgical plan called Soft-Tissue Management.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Early detection is critical when it comes to all forms of cancer. That’s why we offer periodic Oral Cancer Screenings to our patients. VELscope’s non-invasive handheld device allows our staff to detect abnormalities of the oral cavity. Some abnormalities include viral, fungal and bacterial infections, inflammation, salivary tumors, pre-cancerous cells and cancerous cells.
Acids, bacteria and sugars build up in the mouth over time due to drinking and eating. Improper hygiene can lead to demineralization of tooth enamel. Fluoride Treatment works to repopulate minerals back on the enamel and make the teeth more resistant to decay. This non-invasive procedure comes in the form of gel, foam or varnish and sits in the patient’s mouth for a few minutes.
Sealants are extremely effective in preventing decay in areas of the teeth where it is most likely to begin. Sealants are clear or tooth-colored plastic coating applied to grooves on the biting surfaces of chewing teeth. The procedure is non-invasive and painless.
